Milo and Layla

Milo is a Black and Tan Miniature Dachshund and was born in 2002.    Dachshund's are a  wonderful and playful breed.  They don't like to venture outside when it is wet or cold.  They are independent and many have a stubborn streak and like to get their own way.  They very much like their snuggle time and are very good watchdogs.

Milo and I started agility classes in January of 2004 with Carolyn Bray, owner of Dogs will be Dogs.  We competed in our first agility fun match in Port Hope in Sept 2004 and finished first in starters and novice class.  Milo's first AAC agility competition was on March 11, 2005 in Kitchener.  While we didn't receive any "Q's" he showed to me he has what it takes.  In our second trial on March 25, 2005 Milo received his first "Q".  We are continuing to train and hope one day to make it to agility nationals.

Mastering the clicker training method has allowed me to teach Milo to perform some amazing tricks.  We have spent many, many hours training together.  Some of his tricks are:

  • Spread 'em and Crawl
  • Roll Over with an object in his mouth
  • Play Dead
  • Turn Around
  • Weave thru legs standing and walking

  • Basketball
  • Cleanup Toys
  • Balance a steel bar on his nose
  • Catched a ball in his hat

In July 2005, we adopted Layla from Canadian Dachshund Rescue.  Layla is a Chocolate Dapple Smooth.  She was very timid and shy at first but started to come out of her shell after several weeks.  She has such an adorable personality.  Thanks to dachshund rescue for letting us adopt her.  Layla has started to learn some tricks and will be taking agility soon.

I've included some pictures below of Milo, I hope you enjoy them.  Milo is the inspiration for this site.

Yours truly,

Rob Goddard
